Yates Baptist Church sanctuary — Growing God's House capital campaign

Growing God's House

Anchored Here — Finishing the Work Together

Since 1878, God has called Yates to do ministry from this corner of Durham. Your generosity now retires the remaining balance and frees more ministry for tomorrow.

Why This Matters

In 2016, we chose a faithful path — not to move, but to invest deeply in the corner of Cornwallis and Chapel Hill Roads. Here God has rooted Yates since 1878: where we gather for worship and depart on mission across our city and around the world in Jesus' name.

We returned to a renewed sanctuary in November 2017 — grateful and transformed. Join us now to finish the work and fuel what matters most.

  • Debt reduction to free ministry resources
  • Accessibility, hospitality & infrastructure improvements
  • Stewardship of our historic sanctuary & grounds

"Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain."

— Psalm 127:1

What Your Gift Completes

Sanctuary Renewal

Single-level seating with wider aisles, an expanded chancel, and a larger vestibule with restrooms and a quiet room. Step-free entry and ADA seating welcome every worshiper.

Sound, Light & Sightlines

Modern audio, video, and lighting with unobstructed views bring voices, Scripture, and story forward — one shared experience of worship.

Energy & Building Envelope

High-efficiency windows and lighting, a new roof, and durable finishes — reducing operating costs so more dollars reach ministry.

Core Systems & Weekday Access

New HVAC and updated electrical provide steady comfort with fewer emergencies. Added south-side parking places people near weekday ministries and community life.

Member Testimony

The people of Yates are giving — not just of the tangible, but of talents, and time. Giving of time to spend with those of us who are hurting, with teenagers from East Durham, with families who are homeless, with children and teachers at Lakewood School, with people who need to see and feel the love of Jesus at the intersection of 15-501 and Mt. Moriah. We respond to the needs of others as necessary in the name of Jesus Christ, whether across the street or across the sea. I believe we need to do our best to keep our church at the core of community activities.
