YATES BAPTIST CHURCH
Business Meeting Scheduling Policy
Adopted July 24, 2013
This Business Meeting Scheduling Policy is intended to establish guidelines for scheduling the business meetings that are defined in the Yates Baptist Church Bylaws, Article VI: Meetings, Section B: Business Meetings.
Annual Business Meeting
The annual business meeting is held in November for the purpose of electing church officers and committees. This meeting shall be held on a Sunday following the 11:00 a.m. worship service.
Regular Business Meetings
The regular business meetings are conducted quarterly in January, April, August, and October. The Sunday School, music, and missions leadership are elected in the August meeting. These meetings shall be held on a Wednesday evening.
Special Business Meetings
The Bylaws state that:
“Special business meetings may be called by the Pastor, Chair of the Deacons, a majority of the Directors [Deacons], or a petition from five percent of the membership or any 20 members, whichever is less.”
It further states that the day and time of the meeting must be included in the notification of the meeting; therefore, it is not within the scope of this policy to specify a day and time for special business meetings.
It is suggested, however, that person(s) calling a special business meeting should consider a meeting day and time that will facilitate participation of the church body, such as following an 11:00 a.m. worship service or on a Wednesday evening.
