From time to time, instead of focusing on a single subject, it seems better to share a number of thoughts in these pages. This is one of those times. Maybe it’s because we have enjoyed a few days of sunshine and respite from so many cold, dark February days. Maybe it’s the encouragement that comes with anticipating the Spring that is sure to arrive with all its new life and new birth. As the Song of Solomon 2:11-12 declares: “See! The winter is past; the rains are over and gone. Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come, the cooing of doves is heard in our land.” I can feel the relief coming, and I hope you can, too.
As we turn our attention to March, it’s a time when the church and our neighborhood are looking forward to new and good things. I want to keep you apprised of some of them.
Worship Updates
I’m glad to know that many have been able to access worship by live stream on the church website, Facebook, or by podcast. It seems we are discovering a new medium to supplement our long-range vision for worship. I also want to remind you that there remains consistent space for those who have not yet had the opportunity to gather in the Yates sanctuary to give it a try. In addition, we intend to return to our fall 2020 practice of gathering outdoors on Sunday mornings for worship — weather permitting — beginning March 28 (Palm Sunday). Our live stream will not be disrupted, but we hope this can accommodate more worshippers who may wish to be present with other believers as we anticipate Easter.
Missions Aplenty
Please take the time to read this month’s Mission News in The Messenger and find your place among the opportunities to serve our neighborhood in Jesus’ name. Through prayer, healing ministries, donations, and direct participation, you can remain engaged.
CBF of NC Annual Gathering
The Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of North Carolina is hosting a virtual annual gathering on March 18–19. Rather than a hybrid in-person/virtual experience, the entire meeting is accessible online. These gatherings have always been a great way to connect with other Christians and kindred churches and to celebrate the fellowship and mission that unites us. Along with powerful worship experiences, there are meaningful opportunities to grow as disciples.
Please know that my prayers remain with you as we continue this journey together.
Grace and Peace,
